# Upstart I-V: During these ranks, you only need to place within the top six to advance.

# Grifter through Lords of White Spire: During these ranks, you must place within the top four to rank up, however your hidden Match-maker rating (MMR) will move regardless.

The ranking system is currently based on Glicko ranking system. It is due to be changed as a new iteration of ranked is currently in development. Currently, the system is heavily based on opponents ratings. If you place higher than others ranked above you, your MMR will increase and if you place lower than someone at a lower rank, it will decrease. Placing above someone who is lower than you will still increase MMR, but at a decreasing rate by the margin of your opponent.

Placing within the top four does not guarantee that you will rank up, but is dependent on who is placed above you. If you place in second place but first place is a lower rank than you, you may not rank up. This part is still ambiguous and has not been fully explained in its mechanics. It is believed that it depends on how many people below you were a higher or similar rank will lead to rank changes.
